Mahindra Scorpio Classic

Mahindra has recently received an order of 1,470 units of Mahindra Scorpio Classic for the use of the Indian Army. India is actively stepping up its defense readiness due to the ongoing threat of a two-front war. Along the borders, infrastructure is being built, and new armament equipment are being purchased. Reliable vehicles that can quickly transport troops and supplies are some of the essential requirements. Mahindra will fulfill this requirement with its Scorpio Classic 4WD. Before the dispatch, some units of the Indian Army Scorpio Classic have been spied on at an open warehouse of Mahindra. These spy shots were taken by the automotive enthusiast Ganesh Pagar. Army-4WD Scorpio Classic 

The Army-Spec Scorpio Classic doesn’t get any major changes except a new 4WD system which is missing in the standard Scorpio Classic. The Indian Army Scorpio Classic is painted in a green shade, which is commonly used for army vehicles and uniforms. Mahindra will deliver a total of 1,470 units of this SUV and these units may be in different color groups for separate sectors of the Army. The standard Scorpio Classic is available in 5 color options – Galaxy Grey, Red Rage, Dust Silver, Pearl White, and Napoli Black. The Army-spec Scorpio Classic doesn’t have any camouflage which means that these could be used for activities like patrolling and movement of personnel.

Army-4WD Scorpio Classic Design 

The Army-spec Scorpio Classic has the same design and elements as the standard Scorpio Classic. It has the same slatted grill, projector headlamps, LED DRLs, thick body cladding, and functional roof rails. The addition of a new 4WD system makes the Army Scorpio Classic more robust and practical, the upper section of the rear taillights of the SUV is also replaced with black panels, doing this minimizes the risk of external components damage. Mahindra has also added a trailer hook at the back of the SUV along with a 4WD badge, this hook can be used to attach various moveable trolleys as well as moveable small caliber artillery guns and other alike objects.

The interior of the Army Scorpio Classic is similar to the standard version of the SUV. It has the same 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, fully automatic climate control, 2nd row AC vents, tiltable faux leather steering wheel, 12V power socket, and fabric seat upholstery. Safety-wise it has the same safety package which includes dual airbags, a collapsible steering wheel, an engine immobilizer, an anti-theft warning, a speed alert, and an auto door locking system. The equipment list for the army-spec Scorpio Classic may have undergone some modifications. However, these specific details are currently kept confidential.

Army-4WD Scorpio Classic Engine 

The engine of the Army Scorpio Classic could have been tuned for more power and torque as it has to power a 4WD system which is missing in the standard Scorpio Classic. The standard Scorpio Classic carries a 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine under the hood that generates 130bhp of power and 300Nm of torque, it comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
