The EV segment is booming in India. Many EVs are available in the Indian car market and in Auto Expo 2023 many more EVs are introduced to be launched in near future. As of now, more than 60% of EVs market is captured by Tata Nexon EV because of fewer EV options in this price range but this is about to change because the biggest SUV brand in India, Mahindra has launched XUV400 electric in the Indian car market. XUV400 electric was first introduced in September 2022 and now it has been officially launched at a starting price of Rs. 15.99 (Ex-showroom).

Mahindra XUV400 Electric – 

The first batch of XUV400 Electric has reached the company’s showrooms. Mahindra has launched 2 variants of this EV SUV. The first variant is XUV400 Electric EC which carries a 34.5 kWh battery pack that delivers a range of 375 km on a single full charge and the second variant is XUV400 Electric EL which carries a 39.4 kWh battery pack that delivers a range of 456 km on a single full charge. The XUV400 EV is available in 5 different color options – Arctic Blue, Everest White, Infinity Blue, Napoli Black, and Galaxy Grey. Only the top EL variant of this EV SUV gets the option of a dual-tone color.

Exterior, Interior, and Features – 

The XUV400 EV has a length of 4.3 meters and the wheelbase is 2,6000mm. The exterior design of the XUV400 electric is based on the XUV300, it has a closed grill as an EV it doesn’t require a functional grill. The fenders and front and rear bumper of the SUV are new which gives it a sharp and modern look. The LED tail lamps design is also new which differentiates it from the XUV300.

The interior of the XUV400 has a similar design to the XUV300’s interior but many new features are added like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Mahindra’s Adreno X software, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 3 drive modes (Fun, Fast, and Fearless), connected car tech, keyless entry, single pane sunroof, OTA updates, power side mirrors, and automatic climate controls. For safety, the XUV400 EV has disc brakes, ESC, ISOFIX seat mounts, and a total of 6 airbags on the top model. The boot space you get in this EV SUV is 368 liters.

XUV400 Electric Price – 

The price of the XUV400 EV starts at Rs. 15.99 lakh. The base model of this EV is Mahindra XUV400 Electric EC, you get 2 charger options with this variant. The EC variant with a 3.3 kW charger costs Rs. 15.99 lakh and with a 7.2 kW charger, this same variant costs Rs. 16.49 lakh. The 2 variant XUV400 Electric EL is the top variant of this EV SUV, it gets the 7.2 kW charger as standard and the price of the EL variant is 18.99 lakh. These prices are Ex-showroom and are only valid for the first 5,000 customers.

XUV400 Electric Power and Charging time – 

The XUV400 Electric carries a single electric motor setup that powers the front wheels of the SUV. This electric motor takes power from a 39.5 kWh battery pack on the top model and produces 150 hp of power and 310 Nm of torque. This EV SUV can do 0-100 in just 8.3 seconds and its top speed is 150kmph, this makes it the quickest EV SUV in its segment.

The XUV400 Electric can be charged from 0-80% in just 50 minutes via a 50 kW DC fast charger. If charged via a 7.2 kW AC charger this EV takes 6.5 hours to go from 0-100% and if the 3.3 kW charger is used then it will take 13 hours to fully charge. The XUV400 is Mahindra’s first EV SUV and the company is planning to launch more EVs (XUV.e and BEV) in the upcoming year. The XUV400 Electric will give tough competition to Tata’s Nexon EV Max, which is currently the king of the Indian EV segment.
