Toyota India launched 3 new cars in 2022. First, Toyota launched the new Glanza at the start of 2022 then the HyRyder in the mid and the most recently launched car of Toyota is the Innova Hycross. Toyota also participated in the Auto Expo 2023 and showcased several alternative fuel vehicles including the Mirai FCEV, Corolla H2 Concept, Prius PHEV, and the company’s first all-electric SUV named the bZ4X. The sales of the company in India are lower than expected. Toyota did launch good cars but was unable to sell a large number of them. Toyota sales are doing down in India. In December 2022 Toyota only sold a total of 10,421 units and reported a YoY sales decline of 3.8 percent. The number of Toyota cars sold in Dec 2021 is 10,833 units. The MoM sales of Toyota are also down 11.4 percent as in Nov 2022 a total of 11,765 units of Toyota cars were sold. The market share of the company dipped to 3.8 percent MoM from 4.3 percent held in Nov 2022. The best seller of Toyota India in Dec 2022 is the Glanza. A total of 4,465 units of Glanza were sold in Dec 2022. Glanza YoY sales are up 70 percent from 2,634 units sold in Dec 2021. The MoM sales of Glanza also increased by 2 percent as in Nov 2022 a total of 4,393 units of Glanza were sold. The New Glanza was launched in March 2022 and its price range is between Rs 6.39 lakh to 9.69 lakh (Ex-showroom). Recently a CNG version of Glanza was also launched by the company in India.
The second-best seller of Toyota in India in Dec 2022 is the Toyota HyRyder with 4,201 units sold. The YoY report of HyRyder is now available because it was launched in 2022. The MoM sales of HyRyder saw a growth of 35 percent as in Nov 2022 a total of 3,116 units of HyRyder were sold. Toyota has recently launched a CNG version of HyRyder also. The company is expecting to increase sales with the CNG version of HyRyder. The most popular car of Toyota – the Fortuner, sold a total of 1,603 units in Dec 2022 and saw a YoY decline of 12 percent. In Dec 2021 a total of 1,827 units of Fortuner were sold. The MoM sales of Fortuner also fell 19 percent as in Nov 2022 a total of 1,967 units of Fortuner were sold.
The Camry of Toyota sold a total of 71 units in Dec 2022 and marking a YoY growth of 7,000 percent because in Dec 2021 only 1 unit of Camry was sold. While the YoY sales of Camry grew, the MoM sales of Camry declined 40 percent from 118 units sold in Nov 2022. Toyota Vellfire, a luxury MPV of Toyota, reported YoY sales growth of 74 percent by selling 40 units in Dec 2022. In Dec 2021 a total of 23 units of Vellfire were sold. However, the MoM sales of Vellfire decreased 63 percent as in Nov 2022 a total of 109 units of Vellfire were sold.
The YoY sales of Toyota Innova Crysta declined 99 percent as only 36 units of Toyota Innova Crysta were sold in Dec 2022. The MoM sales of Innova Crysta also declined 99 percent. The new Innova Hycross, which was introduced at Rs 18.30 lakh, may be to blame for these decreased sales of Innova Crysta. Bookings of Hycross are now open and deliveries will start later this month. The Toyota Hilux Pick-up 4X4 sold 5 units last month, which is 86% less than the 37 units sold in November 2022. The price of the STD, High, and High AT variants of the 2023 Hilux, is between Rs 33.99 lakh and Rs 36.80 lakh (Ex-showroom). The Toyota Urban Cruiser was discontinued in the last part of the previous year. Despite having sold 2,359 units as of December 2021.
