January was a big month for the Indian car market. The sale of many cars increased both on YoY and MoM basis. Today, we will talk about the top 10 cars of January 2023. 7 out of the top 10 cars are from Maruti, this shows how much Maruti Suzuki dominates the Indian car market. Taking the top 10 cars into account, a total of 1,54,669 units were sold in Jan 2023. The YoY sales grew 21.44 percent from 1,27,358 units sold in Jan 2022. Top 10 Cars (Jan 2023) 

The first car on the list is the Maruti Alto with 21,411 units sold in Jan 2023. The Alto YoY sales grew 73.48 percent from 12,342 units sold in Jan 2022. The MoM growth of Alto was amazing at 147.58 percent because only 8,648 units were sold in Dec 2022. Now Alto has a market share of 13.84 percent, in Dec 2022 it was 7.56 percent. Maruti has recently introduced a new Black edition of all its vehicles which adds some extra features to the car for an extra premium.

The second place goes to the Maruti Wagon R because 20,466 units were sold in Jan 2023.

The YoY growth of Wagon R is very small as only 132 units were sold more last month than Jan 2022. The MoM sales of Wagon R grew 101.02 percent from 10,181 units sold in Dec 2022. Wagon R now has a market share of 13.23 percent, in Dec 2022 it was only 8.90 percent.

The third car on the list is the Maruti Suzuki Swift with 16,440 units sold in Jan 2023.

The YoY sales of Swift fell 13.96 percent from 19,108 units sold in 2022. However, the MoM sales have grown 36.31 percent from 12,061 units sold in Dec 2022.

With a similar number of Jan 2023 sales, the Maruti Baleno comes fourth on the list.

A total of 16,357 units of Baleno were sold in Jan 2023. The YoY sales grew 140.86 percent from only 6,791 units sold in Jan 2022. The MoM sales of Baleno took a small hit of 3.40 percent from 16,932 units sold in Dec 2022. Baleno was the best-selling premium hatchback in 2022, with 3,53,012 units sold throughout the calendar year, carrying 52.59 percent of the market share.

SUVs Entry: Nexon and Creta 

In the fifth position, we have the Tata Nexon with sales of 15,567 units in Jan 2023. The YoY sales grew 12.67 percent from 13,816 units sold in Jan 2022. The MoM sales of Nexon grew by 29.15 percent from 12,053 units sold in Dec 2022.

The sixth spot goes to Hyundai Creta because of sales of 15,037 units in Jan 2023.

The YoY sales of Creta saw a great growth of 52.37 percent and the MoM sales grew 47.35 percent. The Creta is now the highest-selling compact SUV in India beating the Grand Vitara, Seltos, and Toyota HyRyder by a large margin.

Next, in the seventh position, we have the Brezza with sales of 14,359 units in Jan 2023.

The YoY sales of Brezza grew 49.95 percent and the MoM sales grew 28.21 percent. In 2022 the Brezza was the highest-selling SUV in India.

The eighth position goes to Tata Punch with 12,006 units sold in Jan 2023.

The YoY sales of Punch grew 19.74 percent from 10,027 units sold in Jan 2022. The MoM sales of Punch also grew by 13.41 percent from 10,586 units sold in Jan 2022.

On the 9th and 10th positions.

We have the Eeco Van with 11,709 units sold in Jan 2023 and the Maruti Dzire with 11,317 units sold last month. The YoY sales of Eeco grew 11.22 percent and the MoM sales saw a growth of 10.66 percent. The YoY sales of Maruti Dzire saw a high de-growth of 24.39 percent and the MoM sales fell 5.67 percent.
