As petrol and diesel prices are increasing the number of CNG models at car companies’ showrooms are also hiking. The first compact SUV that had a CNG kit in it from the factory was Toyota HyRyder CNG and now other popular compact SUVs in India will too soon get a CNG model to fill the demand for CNG cars in India.
Hyundai was testing CNG models of its popular cars including Alcazar and Venue in mid-2022 and Hyundai’s sister brand Kia was also found testing CNG models of Seltos and Carens in mid-2022 but after the test, we did not get any update from these companies regarding the CNG models.
Now after the launch of Toyota HyRyder CNG, Hyundai and Kia are again getting ready to launch their CNG models in India.
Recently Hyundai Creta CNG testing unit was found in Pune with testing equipment attached to its back. The spy shot was taken by automotive enthusiast Satya. Hyundai currently offers 2 CNG cars in India – Grand i10 NIOS and Aura. Santro too had a CNG version before it got discontinued.
The Creta CNG could carry a 1.4L turbo petrol engine instead of its 1.5L NA petrol engine because a leaked spy shot of Carens CNG confirmed that the car has a 1.4L turbo petrol engine in it. In that sense, Creta CNG is likely to be based on the same engine.
The CNG-mated 1.4L turbo petrol engine will not make as much power as the non-CNG unit makes but it will surely not feel like a light engine for a car this big.
The petrol-fueled 1.4L turbo engine makes 138 bhp of power at 6000 RPM and a peak torque of 242 Nm at 1500-3200 RPM. The Creta CNG could be offered with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed Automatic transmission.
The CNG version of the popular SUV Creta will have almost all the features that the standard version carries.
It will have a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple Carplay Connectivity, connected car tech, power-adjustable front seats, ventilated front seats, an electric sunroof, etc.
Creta CNG will have safety features like up to six airbags, brake assist, vehicle stability management system, electronic stability control, and hill-start assist control.
The upcoming facelift version of Creta is said to have ADAS features too.
The upcoming CNG version of Creta will not affect the production of the petrol and diesel versions of the car. The diesel version of Creta brings a huge number of sales from the company.
The launch of the Creta CNG can happen in early 2023. The price of the CNG version of Creta will be Rs. 1 lakh to 1.25 lakh more than the standard petrol variant.
Soon after the launch of Creta CNG, the launch of the Seltos CNG and Carens CNG will take place.
