BMW X1

The 3rd-Gen BMW X1 was globally launched six months ago and now it has come to the Indian car market. The German company BMW will import the parts of the X1 (3rd-Gen) and assemble them here in India to lower the taxes. The starting price of the BMW X1 is Rs. 45.9 lakh (Ex-showroom) and it goes up to Rs. 47.9 lakh (Ex-showroom). BMW is offering only two variants of this SUV. One is the sDrive18i xLine variant and the higher one is the sDrive18d M Sport variant.

 There is nothing drastically new in the 3rd-Gen X1 than its previous generation. But it goes get refreshed styling and many small updates like it now has a – larger BMW signature chrome grill, new slim LED headlamps, and small chrome style elements in the bumper. When seeing the size profile, you will notice that the height of the new X1 is slightly higher than the previous gen and the separate rear quarter glass panels have been replaced by bigger glass frames. The sloping roofline design is still carried on, on the new X1.  In India, the new X1 gets only 18-inch alloy wheels while the global units get 17-inch alloys as standard and the option to go up to 21-inch alloy wheels. On the back, the new X1 gets a raked windshield and chunky bumper which has a faux skid plate attached to it. The design of the taillights of the new X1 is also new, they are now L-shaped LED stacked horizontally.

 When getting inside the new BMW X1 you will notice that the main upgrade is on the inside. Inside the new X1, you get the BMW’s latest curved-display setup, which has the 10.07-inch touchscreen infotainment system running the company’s latest OS 8 and the 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display. Almost all the center console buttons are now integrated into the infotainment system to give a minimal look. The center line of the dashboard is fully covered by sleek AC vents which continue the minimal approach. The automatic gear lever and some of the main buttons like the Hazard switch and volume controls are placed on a small floating center console for each reach.

 The new X1 gets many modern features as standard like the dual-zone climate control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and BMW’s navigation system. It also gets a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, an optional 205W 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and electrically adjustable front seats with memory and massage functions. Safety-wise it has park assist and a reversing camera along with some automated driving tech including cruise control with brake function and front-collision warning.

BMW X1 (3rd-Gen) Engine 

 New X1 comes with two engine options – a 1.5-liter petrol and a 2-liter Diesel. The petrol engine produces 136PS of power and 230Nm of torque and it can do 0-100 in just 9.2 seconds. The diesel unit produces 150PS of power and 360Nm of torque and it can do 0-100 slightly quicker, in just 8.9 seconds. Both engines get the same single option 7-speed DCT transmission.  The new X1 is BMW’s entry-level SUV and it rivals the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Volvo XC40, and Audi Q3 in India.
