Mahindra is the largest SUV brand in India. All the cars Mahindra has in its portfolio are SUVs. One popular SUV among these is the Mahindra XUV700. XUV700 is a D1-segment premium-level 7-seater SUV, it is very famous for its ADAS package, luxurious interior, and other modern features. Today, we will discuss all the 7-seater Diesel Variants of this SUV and will find out which diesel variant of XUV700 provides the most value for money and which one should you buy. We will discuss the price, features, ownership experience, and engine specs of this SUV. Mahindra XUV700 competes with the SUVs like Tata Safari, MG Hector, and Hyundai Alcazar.
Mahindra XUV700 7-seater diesel is available in 6 different variants (AX3, AX5, AX7, AX7 Luxury, AX7 4WD, and AX7 Luxury 4WD). The dimensions of this SUV are – length – 4695mm, width – 1890mm, height – 1755mm, and wheelbase – 2750mm. The ground clearance of the XUV700 is 200mm. Customers get the option of 5 different colors with this SUV – White, Silver, Black, Red, and Purple. The starting price of the XUV700 diesel is Rs. 16.79 lakh (Ex-showroom) and the top diesel 4WD-automatic model costs Rs. 24.94 lakh (Ex-showroom).
Some Good Points of XUV700 – XUV700 is a rare D-segment, 7-seat SUV with diesel-manual and diesel-automatic powertrain options, 4-Wheel Drive options of this SUV are also available, the road presence is great due to the large size, the price chart is reasonable, and the engine provides a good amount of torque. The most popular and attention-catching point of XUV700 is its ADAS bundle. Some things XUV700 lacks – No caption seat option for the second row, and Ventilated seats are missing for both the front and 2nd-row passengers in all the variants.
XUV700 7-seater all Diesel variants carry a 2.2-liter mHawk turbo diesel engine under the hood, this engine has the best performance figures in its segment. It produces 185PS of power and 420-450Nm of torque. The rivals of XUV700 – Alcazar, Safari, and Hector Plus make 250-350Nm of torque. The mileage of XUV700 is not mentioned by the Mahindra company anywhere which means it doesn’t give the best-in-class mileage but the mileage number is not that bad according to some customers.
The 7-seat XUV700 diesel variants cost roughly Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 70,000 more than the petrol variants. Given the little price difference between petrol and diesel engines, it is generally safer to purchase a diesel engine than a petrol one. Mahindra is incredibly skilled at producing diesel engines, and the diesel engine produces 40 to 70 Nm more torque than the XUV700 turbo petrol engine. So, the XUV700 diesel will give you superior driving performance and reliability. Although exact mileage estimates are not yet available, you will undoubtedly get better mileage and a larger tank with the diesel engine. The diesel variants are – AX3, AX5, AX7, AX7 Luxury, AX7 4WD, and AX7 Luxury 4WD.
The AX3 variant of the XUV700 7-seater is the starting diesel variant of this SUV. This variant is available with a 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine and only has an option of a 6-speed manual transmission. The price of the AX3 variant is Rs. 16.53 lakh (Ex-showroom).
AX3 variants have features like – Halogen reflector headlamps, LED DRLs, Flush door handles, rear disc brakes, LED tail lamps, 10.25-inch color LCD instrument cluster, remote central locking, rear defogger, washer, and wiper, steering-mounted controls, split 2nd, and 3rd-row seat backs, 1st and 2nd-row armrests, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and 17-inch wheels with full wheel covers. Some important features we wish it had – were LED headlamps, Type pressure monitoring, Auto AC, Keyless entry with push-button start/stop, rear camera, and cruise control.
The AX5 variant of this SUV carries the same 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine but it has two transmission options. The AX5 diesel-manual costs Rs. 17.84 lakh (Ex-showroom) and the diesel-automatic costs Rs. 19.56 lakh (Ex-showroom). The difference is of Rs. 1.72 (approx.) between the manual and automatic versions of the AX5 variant.
The AX5 variant has all the features you get in the AX3 variant plus it has some other features like LED reflectors headlamps, 2x curtain airbags, panoramic sunroof, 17-inch machined alloy wheels, electronic stability control, and Drive modes. Some important ‘missing’ features in this variant are – Cruise control, Auto AC, telescopic steering, thorax side airbags, passive keyless entry with push-button start, rear camera, and power folding mirrors.
The AX5 diesel-manual variant costs Rs. 1.31 lakh more than the AX3 variant but it carries many more great features than the AX3 which justifies the additional premium. The AX3 variant is reasonably loaded but to have a better car ownership experience we recommend the AX5 variant as it is proving to be a better value-for-money option than the AX3. The automatic lover can also go for the AX5 variant as it has the automatic transmission option which you don’t get in the AX3 variant.
The AX7 variant of this SUV carries the same 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine with 2 transmission options. The AX7 diesel 6-speed manual variant costs Rs. 19.86 lakh (Ex-showroom) and the AX7 diesel 6-speed automatic variant costs Rs. 21.58 lakh (Ex-showroom). The difference is of Rs. 1.70 lakh (approx.) between the manual and automatic versions of the AX7 variant.
The AX7 variant of this SUV gets an option of the 4WD system too which is limited to the AX7-automatic variant. The 4WD system costs Rs. 1.40 lakh extra which takes the price of AX7 4WD-automatic to Rs. 22.98 lakh (Ex-showroom).
The AX7 variant of XUV700 has all the features you get in the AX5 variant plus it has features like a tire pressure monitoring system, leather upholstery, larger 18-inch machined alloy wheels, rear camera, 2x front side thorax airbags, 6-way power driver seat, driver seat with memory and welcome function, auto wipers, 2-zone auto AC, cruise control (Manual only), and electronic parking brake (4WD only). The AX7 variant also has the ADAS bundle which includes functions like adaptive cruise control (Automatic only), partial highway self-driving (Automatic only), lane departure warning, lane keeps assist, auto emergency braking, forward collision warning, and traffic sign recognition. After paying this much premium the AX7 variant still lacks features like a telescopic adjustable steering wheel, passive keyless entry, and ventilated seats.
The AX7 variant of XUV700 has many more great features compared to the AX5 variant. Some highlighted features are – 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone AC, Cruise control, and the most popular ADAS bundle. The AX7 variant also gets the option of a 4WD system which is not available in the AX5 variant. The price difference between the AX5 and AX7 is huge but seeing the additional functions and features it has the extra premium makes sense. If you are interested in the ADAS features then the AX7 automatic variant of the XUV700 7-seater diesel is our top recommendation for you. For 4WD buyers, the AX7 4WD will be the right choice.
The AX7 Luxury is the top variant of the XUV700 7-seater diesel. The AX7 Luxury variant also carries the same 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine under the hood with 2 transmission options. The AX7 Luxury manual variant costs Rs. 21.66 lakh (Ex-showroom) and the AX7 Luxury automatic variant costs Rs. 23.41 lakh (Ex-showroom). The AX7 Luxury also has the option of a 4WD system limited to the automatic variant. The cost of the AX7 Luxury 4WD automatic is Rs. 24.58 lakh (Ex-showroom). The AX7 Luxury 4WD variant costs Rs. 1.60 lakh more than the AX7 4WD variant.
The AX7 Luxury variant has all the features you get in the lower variants plus it has luxury features like a 360-degree camera, 6 more speakers, driver knee airbag, telescopic steering, adaptive cruise control for traffic with stop and goes function, passive keyless entry, power deployed door handles, wireless phone charging pad, electronic parking brake, blind spot monitoring system, sweeping LED indicators, electronic parking brake. The only feature missing in this trim is the ventilated seats for front and second-row seats, which is an essential feature for a premium car like this.
The AX7 Luxury variant has many more luxury features than the AX7 variant and the price difference between the two is huge which we don’t think is justified. The AX7 Luxury edition does not increase the number of essential features sufficiently, and the higher asking price is therefore not justified. Due to this, we recommend the AX7 variant over the AX7 Luxury because the AX7 Luxury appears to be a pricey upgrade with all available powertrains. If you are someone who values luxury features like a 360-degree camera, better music system, passive keyless entry, and wireless phone charger then you can go for the AX7 Luxury variant but if these things are not on your checklist then you can save your money by buying the AX7 variant instead.
The AX7 is an obvious choice for buyers of Mahindra XUV700 7-seater diesel-manual vehicles since it delivers high-value ADAS features, which are uncommon for a car in this price range. This advice applies to buyers of the 7-seat XUV700 diesel regardless of whether they want a manual, automatic, or 4-wheel drive SUV. Only buyers who want less technology and don’t care about ADAS features should go for the AX5 variant. The AX7 Luxury trim neither increases the number of essential features sufficiently nor justifies the extra asking price over the AX7 model.
If you plan to drive the vehicle in mud, slush, sand, snow, or off-road then you must choose the 4-wheel drive variant instead of the 2WD variant. The more affordable and straightforward 2-wheel drive variant will work perfectly for everyday city use but if you’re interested in the 4WD system, Mahindra has priced the 4WD upgrade reasonably, so you’re getting a nice deal.
