During the last month of the year, every car manufacturing company offers great discounts and benefits on their cars to attract more customers. In December 2022 great offers were attached to cars by almost every company, despite this, some of the companies did not receive the expected attention. For some, the year-end was good, while some car manufactures saw a decline in their sales on a year-on-year basis. 2022 was a good year for Maruti Suzuki. The company registered a slight growth in December 2022 on a year-on-year basis. The country’s largest car manufacturing company Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 116662 units in the last month of 2022 and obtained a market share of 41.66 percent. While in December 2021 the sales number of Maruti was 108618 units with a market share of 41.95 percent.
Hyundai’s last month of 2022 was similar to the last month of 2021. The South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai sold a total of 41287 units in December 2022. In December 2021 the company sold a total of 40983 units. On a year-on-year basis, this shows a small growth of 304 units in the sales charts of the company.
Tata Motors is increasing its sales month after month by offering great cars with top-level built quality. In December 2022, the company sold a total of 36826 units, this is a great jump as compared to December 2021 in which the company sold a total of 32706 units. If we talk about the market share, the company achieved a market share of 13.15 percent in December 2022 which is more than December 2021’s 12.63 percent.
The country’s largest SUV maker Mahindra did great in December 2022. With its new and updated line-up, the Mahindra sold a total of 26777 units in December 2022. Whereas in December 2021 the company sales number was 19021 units. With this great hike in sales, the market share of Mahindra has increased to 9.56 in December 2022, which was 7.35 percent in 2021.
Kia Motors established a successful business in India in a very short period of time with the help of its highest-selling vehicles Seltos and Sonet. Kia is increasing its portfolio in the country and the sales of the company show a great hike. With a total of 18126 units sold in December 2022, Kia motors now have a market share of 6.47 percent. Which was 4.75 percent in 2021, in December 2021 the company sold a total of 12298 units.
The Japanese car manufacturer Toyota launched many new and updated models in India in 2022 but the sales of the company have only declined on a year-on-year basis. The company sold a total of 10125 units in December 2022 which is less than the figures of December 2021 which were 11556 units. Recently Toyota has launched the new Innova HyCross MPV which could aid the sales of the company.
Honda, another Japanese car manufacturer, is not doing as well as it did in its initial days. The market share of Honda is decreasing day by day, the company sold a total of 6816 units in December 2022 which is less than the sales number of December 2021, which was 7335 units.
Renault saw a great decline in the number of car sales in December 2022. The company offered great discounts and benefits in the last month of 2022 but failed to increase sales. In December 2022, Renault sold a total of 5877 units, whereas in December 2021 the sales number was 7883 units. If we talk about the market share, Renault currently has a market share of 2.10 percent which was 3.04 percent in December 2021.
Doing constant improvements in their cars helped Skoda and MG perform fine in India. In December 2022 compared to 2021, both companies did well. On a year-on-year basis, both companies’ sales rose. In December 2022, a total of 6790 units of Skoda were sold, and MG sold a total of 3060 units.
