Mahindra Thar is a very popular off-roader SUV in India; many love this SUV because of its muscular looks and extreme off-road capabilities. The Mahindra Thar is currently available in a 4X4 variant, but soon a 4X2 rear-wheel drive variant of Thar will launch in India, which has been spied on Indian roads. Thar 4X2 will cost less than the 4×4 variant; this is good news for customers who want a budget-friendly Thar. Recently, the 4X2 RWD variant of the Thar was spotted in a new colour before its official introduction. The new colour added in the Thar exterior colour options is Blazing Bronze which we get in the XUV300. Let’s look at all the details of the new 4X2 Thar.
Mahindra Thar 4X2 New colour spotted –
The Mahindra Thar 4X2 will bring new colour choices with it. The first new colour that we know of is Blazing Bronze. Spy shots of this colour have been leek, and not many vehicles of this colour are found on Indian roads. Currently, Mahindra XUV300 is the only car of Mahindra that provides this shade option. Upcoming 4X2 Thar will borrow the XUV300’s engine and this Bronze colour. This colour suits the Thar muscular body well, but its glossy finish makes it seem a little less rugged. If this same colour can be provided in a matte finish, it will level up the tough and bold looks of the SUV.
The colour options available in the 4X4 Thar are likely to be continued. Currently, Thar colour options include Aquamarine, Red Rage, Galaxy Grey, and the highest-selling one Napoli Black. All these colours help make the SUV look more powerful and dominant. The upcoming 4X2 RWD Thar will add a new range of lighter colours, due to which the differentiation between the two will be easy.
Thar 4X2 interior –
The exterior of the upcoming 4X2 Thar is exactly similar to the 4X4 Thar, this same goes for the interior. The interior of the 4X2 Thar looks the same as its top variant, but some differences are there like instead of the 4X4 selector lever you get a utility space. The leaked spy shot of the 4X2 Thar shows the limited-size boot of the SUV which is the same as the current Thar. You can fold down the seats for some extra luggage space, but if you travel mostly with your family then it would be better to wait for the soon-launching 5-door Thar. The 4X2 Thar will get a rough road mode instead of an off-road mode like the 4X4 Thar. If we talk about the competitors of the Thar then there are currently non in the Indian market, the closest options to Thar are the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the Force Gurkha.
Engine options –
The 4X2 RWD Thar will not get the 2.2-litre diesel engine as the 4X4 version. It will carry the XUV300’s 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine that produces 115hp of power and 300Nm torque. The 4X4 Thar’s 2.2-litre engine produces slightly more, 130hp of power while the torque is the same as the other engine. For the petrol variant, the 2.0-litre petrol engine we get in 4X4 Thar will continue in the 4X2 Thar. This 2.0-litre petrol engine produces 150hp of power and 300Nm of torque with a 6-speed manual transmission, with the 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission this same engine produces more torque of 320Nm.
The 4X2 Thar could only get the manual transmission options to minimize the price. All these features cutting could bring down the starting price of Mahindra Thar up to Rs. 1.5 lakh or more. With its less body weight and more fuel-efficient engine, the running cost of 4X2 Thar will be less than the upper variants. The new price range of Thar could clash with the Maruti Suzuki’s Jimny, it will be interesting to see the comparison between the two.
